There is a real surge’: Peel has more than 300 refugees in its shelter system right now
Peel region staff are urging the federal government to support housing more than 300 refugee individuals and families seeking shelter in the community.
A recent influx of asylum seekers across the GTA is resulting in strain on local shelters and a rise in refugees sleeping on the street.
Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie said that an encampment of approximately 30 refugee claimants was set up near the shelter on Dundas Street, adding that regional staff managed to find emergency housing for those individuals.
