Building Understanding, One Page at a Time

Our journey to build an inclusive, equitable Peel community has been both impactful and rewarding. A key part of this has been the Leadership Learning Series, a program from the Anti-Black Racism and Systemic Discrimination (ABR-SD) Collective. Through interactive sessions, expert speakers, and open dialogue, the series provides leaders and staff with practical tools to tackle systemic discrimination. More than just a toolkit, it’s a hands-on space for leaders to dive into challenges, explore solutions, and share ideas for change.

In keeping with our mission for dynamic, relevant learning, we’re excited to introduce a new addition to our Community of Practice: a book club. This book club isn’t just about reading—it’s a space for personal and community transformation. We’ll engage with books that explore topics like racialized trauma, systemic discrimination, and identity, offering members a shared journey of reflection and growth.

Our first read is My Grandmother’s Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies by Resmaa Menakem. Menakem explores the physical impact of racism on both people of color and white individuals, emphasizing the need for individual and collective healing to drive meaningful change.
