Education Working Group

Anti-Black Racism has been a longstanding and pressing issue across school boards in the Region. Despite numerous interventions by governments to address this systemic problem, incidents of prejudice, racism, and discrimination in classrooms continue to be reported and have seen a dramatic rise in recent years.

The Education Committee offers a space for open dialogue and collaborative efforts to combat anti-Black racism within the school system. Through ongoing discussions, awareness campaigns, and policy development, the committee aims to create a more inclusive and equitable educational environment for all students.

One of the key goals of the Education Committee is to develop strategies and initiatives that foster culturally responsive teaching and learning. Integrating diverse perspectives, histories, and experiences into the curriculum ensures that all students feel represented, valued, and empowered. By promoting inclusive educational practices, the committee aims to counter stereotypes, challenge biases, and create a more inclusive learning environment for students from all racial backgrounds.

The Education Committee of the Collective is Co-Chaired by Carrie Campbell, Research Associate at Social Planning Council of Peel & Aman Sahota, Co-Founder of Factors Education
